Bob, congratulations on your new school. If anyone wants to learn what really works for self-defense, The Charles Nelson Self-Defense System is it. Continuing the the legendary teaching of Charles Nelson, one of the WWII-H2H close combat pioneers who's goal it was to bring practical self-defense to the streets of New York City.

Hope to train again soon.

Self-Defense Tip of the Month- July 09

Self-Defense is different from assassinations and sneak attacks. If someone wants you dead they can easily kill you from a distance. Or a professional assassin who can kill you at close range. When you train for self-defense it's for situations where the attacker doesn't necessarily want you dead but he wants something from you or he may just want to intimidated you and make himself seem superior.

A couple of thing you can do to prevent sneak attacks and sucker punches:

1. Train your peripheral vision (look straight and try to notice only what's happening in the periphery) 2. Use reflections, such as car or store windows to notice what's going on around and behind you. 3. Awareness of your surroundings: when you enter a place look around, check where the exist are located (have an exit plan if things get crazy). Look for things that can be used in a pinch as a weapon or a shield. 4. Watch peoples hands and shoulders, the hands can hold weapons and the shoulder moves before the punch ...Oh Yeah, I almost forgot; 5. Never borrow money from loan-shakes...lol.

Train hard, train smart.
